The Columbian Exposition Half Dollar is the first commemorative coin produced by the US Mint and it was minted in 1892. The coin was a commemoration of the Worlds Columbian Expo in Chicago which celebrated the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' 1492 voyage to the Americas. The coin displays the portrait of Christopher Columbus.
